Dr. Robert Sears, author of The Vaccine Book, makes a compelling case for an alternative safer vaccine schedule for our children. The Vaccine Book is the first resource I've come across that is pro-vaccine, yet addresses the concept of a potentially "safer" alternative vaccine schedule for our children.
As a parent researching information on vaccines, I find the information available is often at opposite ends of the spectrum - either 100% pro-vaccine per the CDC's recommended immunization schedule or 100% anti-vaccine from medical experts on the fringe. Classy Mommy thinks this book is a great pro-vaccine resource for parents today. According to Dr. Sears, his schedule basically gives 2 shots at a time and spreads shots out over the first few years of life instead of grouping all infant vaccines into the first 18 months of life.
As a Mom of a 2 year old and 3 month old, I loved this informative book. I found the writing style and research easy to digest. The Vaccine Book presents comprehensive research into the Product Inserts for each vaccine and also gives a breakdown of each vaccine by brand to show the differences in ingredients dependent upon the manufacturer of each shot. That info coupled with a discussion on what ingredients could be controversial enables parents to draw their own conclusions about each vaccine so they can make the best decision for their children.

Classy Mommy had the chance to check out 2 new J&J bath products for toddlers: a bedtime toddler wash and a sudzing soap bar. Both contain "NATURALCALM" -a blend of patent pending essences that have relaxing properties to help prep and relax kiddies before bedtime. They both smell awesome! We totally love the easy grip toddler sudzing bar from J&J. Each box has 3 bars and the soap bar is basically wrapped in a purple mesh that makes it totally easy for kids to hold and prevents it from slipping from their hands. Mackenzie is all about soaping and lathering herself in bubbles with this big girl "toddler soap". We noticed on the package label that the new liquid toddler wash does have the classic J&J No More Tears formula, but the sudzing bar package did not. So, just in case, remember to tell your kiddies who are "learning to wash" not to rub their eyes with their soapy hands. Last year I reviewed the DaysAgo Digital Day counters. Kudos to Kathleen for reminding all of us just how important these monthly breast exams are to detecting early tumors; which can lead to the greatest chance of survival. This product hits home for me. I've received a few emails from readers questioning me alluding to a recent cancer scare. Luckily, I'm fine but 2 weeks ago I discovered a lump in my breast when feeding Kyle. I went the OB and my doc sent me for an ultrasound the very next day with the hopes it was only a cyst. Unfortunately, it was a solid mass (aka tumor!). I met with a surgeon a few days later and it had doubled in size that quickly - it was bigger than a quarter. She thought I would be fine based on my age, no family history, etc. but was concerned about how quickly it was growing. I had surgery to have it removed a few days later for a full biopsy. It was a whirlwind, but thank heavens it was fine. Pathology showed it to be a tumor called a lactating adenoma which is associated with the hormones of pregnancies and breastfeeding. Needless to say, I encourage all of you busy young Moms to remember that we still need to do monthly self exams.
