Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw | $8
Aimed at the older tween age group, the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series uses a great style of writing that really draws young readers in. The pages have small pictures and the writing is in a hand written font, but it is all easily legible and the simple pictures definitely enhance the book. This is the third book in the series and if the popularity of the first two books is any indication of how this one will fare, then it should be a hit! More info from our preferred retailer.

The Dangerous Book for Boys | $17
The Dangerous Book for Boys is a fabulous gift idea for any Dad or Grandpa. I gave this beautiful hardback book to both my husband and father as a "new baby boy"/"new grandson" gift last year so that they could persuse and enjoy as a guide for Dads and Son. The whole family will love it and it is the kind of book you can pick up and read just a bit at a time. The book seems to be aimed to renew the sense of adventure in boys by sharing famous tales along with including instructions on just about everything - think how to skip rocks, make a paper airplane or do a coin trick! My husband has actually used it a ton with our 3 1/2 year old daughter as well - reading stories and pulling out instructions or recipes for all kinds of concotions and adventures. The Unhealthy Truth by Robyn O'Brien | $16
If you have a child with food allergies or are concerned with just what might be lurking in the processed food we eat, then Robyn Obrien's book, The Unhealthy Truth, is a must read. When her youngest child developed very serious egg allergies, Robyn, an MBA and former equities analyst has found her self an unlikely crusader to uncover serious issues with our food supply and how it is making us sick. As my 17 month old son is also allergic to eggs, I'm personally fascinated with the research of her new book and what to me is an expose about how GM (genetically modified) food could be the major culprit causing the astronomical rise in food allergies in children. After reading parts of her book in the last 24 hours, I've learned that in other parts of the world, like Europe, there are far stricter guidelines about GM food while in the US, the FDA has not yet taken the same precautions. I had the privilege of connecting with Robyn, a mother of 4, almost 3 years ago when she was first launching her business AllergyKids which raises awareness about food allergies and sells some innovative products that identify children with food allergies by their lunch sacks, stickers, medical cases, etc. I'm so excited to see this book on the market as Robyn can share her expertise and research with thousands of concerned Parents in America. Some of the research in this book has me downright scared, but I feel this is a story I need to better understand. The Unhealthy Truth, also shares Robyn's journey from being a chef like me - think microwaveable mac n cheese- to going all organic and healthy for everything. I do orgnanic milk, but struggle to go 100% away from processed snacks and foods. Robyn outlines a plan on just howo to do rid your home of all the processed junk and even to get your kids to jump on board. She includes sample menus and snacks to help us on our way which I know I will find to be an invaluable resource in my journey towards a healthier diet for my family. Classy Mommy Approved!

Your Best Birth by Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein | $15
I'm excited to read Your Best Birth:Know All Your Options, Discover the Natural Choices, and Take Back the Birth Experience, by Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein. This book is a super follow up to their hit documentary from 2008, "The Business of Being Born." With a national c-section rate of 31 percent, I love what these women are doing to promote awareness, education, and choice when it comes to childbirth so pregnant Moms will better understand the childbirth options, procedures, and the pros and cons of everything. I saw the authors on the Today Show this morning discussing the new book and how they hope to empower women to better understand the childbirth process and the mid-wife model and how it can co-exist with OB-GYN's. Interestingly, in most of the world midwives are prevalent and often work together with doctors however this is not the standard in the US. The informative movie was excellent and I suspect the book will be a fantastic go-to resource for pregnant Moms looking to learn more much like the book by Henci Goer which helped me plan my birthplan and educate myself on my birthing options. Both my kids and I are impressed with this brand new Press-2-Sniff technology storybook. Mo's "scentsational" journey will remind you of the scratch n sniff books of our generation - but today you just "Press" to smell the sweet puff that the little dog Mo is also sniffing. Strawberries, roses, and more. You'll even smell love which in this case smells just like chocolate! Kenzie and I couldn't agree more! More info from our preferred retailer.

We can not stop reading Pinkalicious. I swear we read it no less than 5 times per day with sometimes as many as 15+ readings! Kenzie is crazy for Pinkalicious. She's basically memorized all the words and can read it verbatium as well. All through sheer love of the book - as at 3 years old, she definitely can not read nor can she even recognize all the letters of the alphabet! I promise your little girls will adore this tale of a girl who turns pink after eating one too many Pink Cupcakes. I saw they also sell a book called Purplicious and I think I'll be investing in this title sometime very soon! More info from our preferred retailer.

Joy is the Greatest Gift Picture Book | $17
Kenzie and I are both crazy for the Focus Friends series. We love this book and the "Appreciation Party" which were sent to us to review. In Joy is the Greatest Gift, the main character, Joyann, gives many examples of what brings her joy which will open up wonderful discussions between you and your kiddos about what makes them happy and brings them joy - and even vice versa what types of things cause sad feelings. I think these books are awesome conversation starters and at 3 years old Kenzie is totally into "having conversations" and Kenzie always request upon finishing a story that we "talk about it".
This book has a fabulous message delivered in a fun and beautiful way with bright and bold pictures too.

If You Give a Cat a Cupcake | $11
The beloved author and illustrator team of "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie", Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond, just released another equally adorable and fun book to their series. This time, in "If You Give a Cat a Cupcake" you can expect that he's going to ask for some sprinkles! The kids love the familiar pattern to the stories in this series and the pictures are too cute. Baby Einstein Touch and Feel Baby Animals Board Book | $7
I admit I am totally a Baby Einstein Mama. Everyone thinks of the dvd's - but we've now entered a phase where the Baby Einstein board books are a must have item. We read several Touch and Feel books countless times a day. For Kyle's 1st 6 months before he began crawling, Baby Einstein dvd's captivated his attention but I confess no television show keeps him still now that he is a walking toddler at 12 months! He requests his stories again and again all day long as these books are helping him develop his understanding of language. He loves pointing to all the pictures and hearing me repeat animal sounds and names while he also rubs, pats, and squishes the textures. Kenzie is even still into them at 3 years old! Classy Mommy Approved. More info from our preferred retailer.
Poingo Story Reader | $35
The Poingo story reader is a fantastic option to enable children to read by themselves as the digital pen shaped Poingo brings words and pictures to life. This super tool will help your Pre-K and early readers begin to officially learn to read as well.We tested out the Poingo and were huge fans of it just as we love the Leapfrog Tag reading system. I highly recommend both systems and brands but there are a few key differences worth mentioning. From a value perspective, the Poingu starter kit can not be beat as it comes with 2 very large storybooks (Nemo and Cars)at a price lower than the competitive reading system currently on the market - the Leapfrog Tag reader. As for convenience, the Poingo library is already loaded onto the pen so with a click of the pen your child is ready to read. However, the library for the Poingo is smaller than the available library for Leapfrog's Tag Reader - but the value price reflects this difference. So, depeding on your budget or the number of books you want to buy, this might be the best option for you. I guarantee your children will find hours of independent play and reading with the Poingo. Sounds Tough Big Noisy Machines | $7
Classy Mommy is a fan of DuoPress latest title. Toddlers will go crazy over Sounds Tough! Big Noisy Machines, a board book that uses vibrant illustrations to present a fun lineup of noisy machines: a train goes "chooo, chooo," a tug boat honks, and a cement mixer goes "sloooosh!"
Tots love the Roy Lichtenstein-styled graphics and have a blast imitating the sounds made by the machines. I also find this book is a fun way to teach your child sounds and other important elements of language development. I'm working really hard with Kyle as his babbling is delayed from what looks to be some ear issues so this is just the kind of book full of sounds to help me encourage him to get his lips moving!

The Parent Trip | $15 | |
"You know that Barbie you had when you were a kid--the pregnant one whose belly popped off like a battery cover, allowing you to remove the peanut-size plastic baby and then snap on a flat new front (sold separately)? Well, that's not exactly how it works..." In The Parent Trip: From High Heels and Parties to Highchairs and Potties, Jenna McCarthy tells it like it is, with absolutely no apologies and with laugh-out-loud moments on every other page. Seriously, this book had me laughing out loud and virtually in tears it was so hysterical. Pregnancy and Motherhood is something which unites us all and Jenna covers everything! This book felt like meeting an old friend who knows just what kind of journey I've put myself through - cause my husband just doesn't get it! Supermodel/mom Gabby Reece said it best: "Jenna brilliantly captures the hilarious insanity of motherhood and family. My Baby Can Talk: Baby Signs | $10
Classy Mommy is a fan of the My Baby Can Talk sign language dvd series - and now they've just launched a series of board books to perfectly compliment the DVD collection. I love these board books - each page has a BOLD and BRIGHT picture of a specific item or action coupled with a catchy poem. On each page both the poem and image clearly help Parents understand the actual movements of any given sign. This is HUGE for me as I often find it pretty tricky to exactly understand how to gesture each given sign. And right now, it looks like Kyle at 9 months is going to be a very late talker so I'm really beginning to take a dive into these signs! Classy Mommy Approved. Mommy Guilt | $14
In our child centered culture, many Moms suffer from "Mommy Guilt". This book by the same title takes a refreshing look at these overwhelming feelings and how to deal with them. I had the pleasure to meet Aviva Pflock and Devra Renner, authors of Mommy Guilt earlier this year and let me tell you I'm impressed! The authors performed a survey of some 1,300 parents and offer up 7 principles to help us Mamas try out their guilt-free philosophy. The #1 Principle was "You must be willing to let some things Go". I couldn't agree more wholeheartedly on this one after experiencing Mommyhood for only a brief 2.75 years! Read it - I think you just might feel a lot better about yourself! My Beautiful Mommy | $14
My Beautiful Mommy is a book which helps plastic surgery patients explain their "transformations" to their children. Yes, I think this is pretty outrageous. I don't really want to debate the pros and cons of a book like this. Just thought this was an interesting find if you haven't heard about it already. Frankly, perhaps there is a need for a book like this. If parents are having plastic surgery, we all know books help children understand tough questions, and if this helps the kids understand their world than so be it. Honestly the real issue is our culture's obsession with being thin and beautiful. As a mother of a little girl this really worries me as I fear that someday my own beautiful little angel will have a poor self image due to societal pressures. The Beach House by Jane Green | $14
Just finished this fantastic summer read - The Beach House - Jane Green's latest book. I first fell for her chick lit after reading Jemima J. The Beach House takes place on Nantucket which is a refreshing change from the typical NYC style chick lit. Love the location in this book and how Jane Green intertwines the lives of a handful of characters, all with separate stories and who do not know each other, until ultimately they all come together for a summer at "The Beach House" in Nantucket. Once I started reading I couldn't really put it down. And the ending with a twist will surprise you too! As a a busy Mom of 2, I somehow managed to finish this read in less than 48 hours. Run out and get a copy and I bet you'll soon be a Jane Green fan if you aren't already. More info from our preferred retailer.
Holly Would Dream by Karen Quinn | $11
In store today! Grab a copy of Holly Would Dream by Karen Quinn, bestselling author of the Ivy Chronicles, and I promise this chick lit will whisk you away from all your Mommy worries. I was lucky enough to score an advance copy of Holly Would Dream which I finsihed in all of about 2 days. Even with no babysitter and 2 kids under the age of 2. This charming book has a plot inspired by the romantic Audrey Hepburn movies of the 1950's Hollywood era with a modern day totally likeable character named Holly who you will be rooting after reading just a few paragraphs. I adore Karen Quinn's books and let me tell you she is just about the most accessible and nicest author ever. If you visit her site you can sign up for her cool newsletter and email her too - unlike a glam movie star, this famous author will probably write you back! Henry and the Hidden Veggie Garden | $5
Henry and the Hidden Veggie Garden -Gotta share this one - and it's only $5! Kimberly Williams- Paisley of Father of the Bride fame, co-authored this wonderful children's book with her father in support of the Love Your Veggies Nationwide School Lunch Campaign. The book is adorable and Mackenzie, age 2, keeps asking me to read it again as she loves hearing this tale about little Henry forsaking his pizza to visit his Aunt's farm where he hangs with his cousin and learns to love healthy, crunchy and yummy fruits and veggies. Kimberly Williams- Paisley's son is 18 months old so she recognizes how important it is to teach healthy eating habits to our kids. This book was a "just in time" review for me! Mackenzie craves fruit and eats her canned and soft veggies but has a few texture issues with the crunchy fresh veggies I'm trying to teach her to love. She now loves corn on the cob so hopefully by summer's end she'll be crunching carrots. More info from our preferred retailer.
Love the one You're With by Emily Giffin | $15
Emily Giffin's latest book, love the one you're with, hit stores last week. Click over to my blog post here to read the first chapter!!!!I'm already 1/4 of the way through it and so far it is fabulous. Normally, the natural thing to do is post after you finish a book but I'm just dying to share the news of what's on my nightstand. If you've never read her stuff and you love chick lit - give her books a go ASAP. Honestly, I think her Something Borrowed and Something Blue follow up book is the most brilliant and clever chick lit I've ever come across. Emily's characters are honest, real, and become even more likable despitetheir flaws. Her storylines bring up tough questions and touchy personal moral dilemma's we all likely face at some point or other - but don't always end up talking about.... Frecklebox Personalized Books | $20
We are thrilled by the personalized name books from Frecklebox - they arrived last week and we haven't stopped reading our Kyle or Mackenzie version since. The "My Name Is" series spells out your child's name in beautiful scenes which incorporate nature. I think Mackenzie will learn how to spell both her name and her brother Kyle's name from reading these stunning books non-stop. Literally, her name is spelled out in clouds in the sky, flowers in the dirt, shells in the sand, stars in the night sky, and even in a flock of pigeons. My 2 year old is fascinated - but even I find this way of teaching her how to spell and read her name interesting and fun! Classy Mommy approved. More info from our preferred retailer.

The Vaccine Book by Dr Sears | $8
Dr. Robert Sears, author of The Vaccine Book, makes a compelling case for an alternative safer vaccine schedule for our children. The Vaccine Book is the first resource I've come across that is pro-vaccine, yet addresses the concept of a potentially "safer" alternative vaccine schedule for our children. As a parent researching information on vaccines, I find the information available is often at opposite ends of the spectrum - either 100% pro-vaccine per the CDC's recommended immunization schedule or 100% anti-vaccine from medical experts on the fringe. Classy Mommy thinks this book is a great pro-vaccine resource for parents today. According to Dr. Sears, his schedule basically gives 2 shots at a time and spreads shots out over the first few years of life instead of grouping all infant vaccines into the first 18 months of life. As a Mom of a 2 year old and 3 month old, I loved this informative book. I found the writing style and research easy to digest. The Vaccine Book presents comprehensive research into the Product Inserts for each vaccine and also gives a breakdown of each vaccine by brand to show the differences in ingredients dependent upon the manufacturer of each shot. That info coupled with a discussion on what ingredients could be controversial enables parents to draw their own conclusions about each vaccine so they can make the best decision for their children. Fancy Nancy Puzzles, Cards, Board Games | $13
Fancy Nancy is hotter than Hannah Montana in our household. She is one of 2 year old Mackenzie's latest obsessions as she twirls around the kitchen saying Ooh La La and asks for Parfaits! I'm guessing we are not the only fans, as Briar Patch has just launched a line of Fancy Nancy glitter puzzles, cards, and board games. We have the glitter puzzle set (age 5+ ) and both my husband and I love putting it together. I forgot how much fun puzzles can be! Kenzie loves to help us piece it together while trying to act as posh as Fancy Nancy. More info from our preferred retailer.
Boca Beth Bilingual Backpack | $32
I love this product as it is a really simple way to introduce a second language to your toddlers and preschoolers. Kenzie adored the DVD, musical CD, coloring book, and puppet! My favorite item was the bilingual musical CD which introduces more than 100 words and 30 phrases in Spanish and English. I found this CD so cool as the songs were set to the beat of familiar "children's songs" (ie If Your Happy and You Know it etc.) After just listening to the CD twice, I caught Kenzie quietly playing with her dollhouse singing If You Want to Say Please Say Por Favor, If you want to say Thank You say Gracias! Too cute! Use code bocarocks to receive 20% off any CD or DVD and 10% off any language learning set. More info from our preferred retailer.
The Second Nine Months | $16
As I am going through the second nine months right now I found it very easy to connect with this author as she frankly shares the difficulties and truths of being a first time mom. Vicki Glembocki's story is both heartbreaking and humorous as only a mom or new parent may understand. Vicki tells it like it is! If you are an exhausted mom with a new baby and frustrated with everyone telling you what a fairy tale your life must be you'll definitely appreciate Vicki's honesty about the tough (and ultimately joyful! ) adjustment to life after baby. Juno | $8
My words just will not do it justice. If you haven't seen Juno - please go see it -like yesterday! This movie is phenomenal, quirky, and touching. I liked it so much that I just orderd the catchy soundtrack to give me a Juno fix. It's been a top downloaded album off iTunes and I understand why - and so does my 2 year old! I'll be rooting for Ellen Page to win best actress and if you see this movie, I bet you will be too. Totally Classy Mommy approved! More info from our preferred retailer.

Love, Mommy: Writing Love Letters to Your Baby | $10
This sweet book makes a marvelous baby shower or new baby gift for any mom to be or new mom. Reading it after just giving birth to Kyle, it is forcing me to reflect on how many special moments are happening on a daily basis wtih my new son. The idea behind this book is to inspire Moms to write "love letters" to their children - that we can share with them someday in the future to share the story of their lives from our perspective as we cared for them as babies. Children love to ask their parents about their childhood as kids are well known to say "Tell me about the Time when...... " The author gives the reader tons of ideas on what to write about - the first moment you held your child, what the weather was like the day you came home from the hospital, taking a first bath, or walk outdoors together - and what you were feeling, thinking, and more ! Classy Mommy Approved! More info from our preferred retailer.

The Other Mother | $15 | |
I thought this was a super read! The Other Mother is a more serious and dramatic type than some of the other "mommy chick lit" books I've recently read and reviewed. Tensions collide as 2 Moms on opposite sides of the "Mommy Wars" are brought together as new neighbors. The narration flips between each Women's perspective throughout the story and the reader sees how each deals with the contradictions, doubts, and questions about their decision to either be a "Working" Mom or a "Stay at Home" Mom. This emotional story will stick with you after you finish the last page! More info from our preferred retailer.

The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth | $11
This my favorite book on childbirth. It slants towards a natural childbirth, yet this book provides a balance of information on each possible medical intervention and the merits, pros, and cons of both the "natural" way and each intervention - from C-section to epidurals to episiotomies. I refer Henci Goer's book to anyone I meet who is considering a natural childbirth and asks me for advice. I had 2 natural childbirths in a hospital for both of my children and this book really helped me understand the goals of my birth plan and help me understand the medical interventions I might need or want depending on how my body was handling labor.
