Yes, Moms have gone geek! Did you know that 41% of the “iPhone Moms,” download apps for their children? With that in mind, Animal Crackers, a children’s game developer, gave Classy Mommy and my top product tester, 4 yr old Mackenzie, an exclusive chance to review their new iPhone Apps for preschoolers. Animal Crackers goal is to make their games both entertaining and educational for the little ones. Moms will love being able to pass off their iPhone to kids to keep them entertained while waiting in the doctors office or stuck in traffic!

Animal Crackers recently launched iPhone App games are ‘Heads Shoulders Knees and Toes’ and ‘My Name.’ ‘Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes’ uses the fabled childhood song to teach word and body part recognition, and ‘My Name,’ is a simple visual game designed to teach toddlers how to spell their names. Animal Crackers founder Julie Sandor, is a longtime film producer and mother of two, so she has perfected the balancing act of juggling work and parenting while staying abreast of the latest and coolest gadgets and gizmos.
From the preschooler Kenzie’s perspective, she was a huge fan of “Heads Shoulders Knees and Toes”. I could play BeJewled on the iPhone all day, and I profess Mackenzie felt the same way about this game! She was entirely entertained and Moms will really appreciate the educational “aspect of the games by Animal Crackers. “Head Shoulders Knees and Toes” was very educational with a puzzle like component, matching component, fun tickling component, and what I’d call a memory component as the kids are able to click the body parts of a Lion to create the tune & lyrics of the classic song by the same name. Kenzie’s favorite element was the reward system built into the game where she earned an animal cracker for her Cookie Jar after she finished each exercise. She could then proceed to “shake” the cookies and count how many were in her jar – which also reinforced her counting and numeric recognition skills. Classy Mommy Approved! I can’t wait to see what Animal Crackers launches next!

I thought I was crazy, but my husband & I each have iPhones with many more games for my almost 4 and almost 3 year olds than apps for us. We tried the vTech games, which never held their attention. However, they can play on our iPhones for hours and have been for months! We decided to get them each iPod touches for Christmas so we can get our phones back. When people ask what they are getting, I have gotten weird looks but they are actually more cost effective than the vTech when you consider the games are either free or up to $4 each.

You know it just keeps getting better doesn’t it. My 4 year old moves a mouse around on the screen like he’s been using it for years! I gotta have him teach his grandmother now!
