Classy Mommy Giveaway: Win a $10 Gas Gift Card!

Like me, I know most of you be feeling the squeeze at the gas pump. Even with virtually no commute, these prices hurt - and it looks like they might only get higher. I recently either read or saw on TV - can't remember where! - that worst case scenario has gas hitting $10 / gallon within the year.

This morning when I ran a few errands, I noticed I was almost on "E" with only 58 miles to go..... I would have pumped but the station near me had regular at $4.13 / gallon. Hoping I might find it cheaper somewhere else tomorrow......assuming I don't run out of gas first!

Thanks to Edmunds Savvy Shopper interactive sweepstakes game, I've got $10 gas gift cards to share with 2 lucky readers. To win more cool prizes, be sure to check out the Edmunds Savvy Shopper site. In the game, participants guess the price of a showcased vehicle in a game show setting to be entered into a weekly drawing for a cash prize, as well as the final prize of $3,500 cash that can be used towards a down payment on a new car.

To enter, just leave a comment on this post. Must be a US resident. 2 Winners will be selected to win a $10 gas gift card. Contest runs from May 31st, 2008 - June 8th, 2008. (Remember to include your email if you do not have a contact info in your profile!)

Shades of Summer

Mackenzie is all over "summertime" eyewear. Looking a little stunned in these pics as well! A little too much excitement maybe? Constantly requesting the coveted pair of Dora the Explorer sunglasses in the car to help her rock out with the Doodlebops in her car seat. She is equally impressed with her new swim goggles - which she was able to test out on Memorial Day for the first time. Unfortunately she is quite skeptical about putting her head under water - hopefully the goggles will help! And for all you Mommytalk Scavenger hunters - click here!

Wordless Wednesday: Corn on the Cob Flashback!

Yummy! Kenzie digs into her corn on the cob for the very first time. Was delighted with the results although her favorite part was being a "big girl" and holding the cob like the rest of us.

We were inspired to take a photo as the scene was very reminiscent of her Mommy's early days eating corn on the cob shown in this photo circa 1978 or 1979. That would be me!

Double Stroller Blues....

Gone are the days of just speeding around with 1 babe in a stroller. I dread using the double and avoid it whenever possible. Took the plunge for a family walk yesterday.
This double seater that converts to a traditional sit n stand is pretty good - but really does anyone LOVE their double stroller? I love that this ride is super lightweight for a double, incredibly easy to fold up and down and fit in my car, and that there is great sun shades for both kids if they need to sit down. The price was also very affordable within the family budget - my Mom actually gave it to me as a "new baby gift" when Kyle was born.

BUT...........it is very hard to steer with both kids in it - especially now that I've put my 33 lb pre-schooler in the front making it somehow front "heavy" and tough to maneuver. Not to mention push up hill!
Anyone have any double strollers stories - good or bad? Seems every Mom has the double stroller dilemma!

Wipe Out! Clorox style....

Compliments of Clorox and Mom Central, we were able to test out Clorox's new thicker disinfecting wipes in the lavender scent. I remember buying the originals of these a few years back as they were a great way to do a quick daily wipe down of sinks & toilets - especially if sudden guests were arriving and I didn't have time for a full scrub down. Loved how I could conveniently keep them under the sink hidden away and pop them out in a flash. So, I was excited to be re-introuced to this convenient cleaning product. All the positives still ring true - and I loved the lavender scent - but the best part is the wipes truly are more SUBSTANTIAL and noticeably THICKER - so I will be more inclined to buy them again.

And now that I have a family - along with a potty trained 2 year old who is on occassion dribbling as she pops the potty seat on and off - I really need a convenient quick wipe down cleaner. These Clorox wipes do just the trick. Even better - they now KILL FLU VIRUS - so I'll definitely be buying more of these again!

Calling all Emily Giffin Fans! Read the 1st chapter here.

Hooray! Emily's latest book, love the one your with, hit stores last week. I'm already 1/4 of the way through it and so far it is fabulous. Normally, the natural thing to do is post after you finish a book but I'm just dying to share the news of what's on my nightstand. And from a personal standpoint, given her rising fame as a hot chick lit author, she might just be the closest I ever get to famous. A bit closer than 6 degrees of separation - really -growing up, she was the best friend of my best friend's older sister. I remember lots of sleepovers and randomly enough remember her teaching me how to use an inhaler for my asthma. (Not that anyone cares about that info at all)So it has just been so cool to see her novels rise to fame. When her first book came out, I remember thinking could this be the Emily Giffin I know? And racing to read her bio online to confirm that she was "the Emily Giffin" I knew as a kid.

If you've never read her stuff and you love chick lit - give her books a go ASAP. Honestly, I think her Something Borrowed and Something Blue follow up book is the most brilliant and clever chick lit I've ever come across. Emily's characters are honest, real, and become even more likable despitetheir flaws. Her storylines bring up tough questions and touchy personal dilemma's we all likely face at some point or other - but don't always end up talking about....
Read the first chapter of her new book here.
Chapter 1

It happened exactly one hundred days after I married Andy, almost to the minute of our half-past-three-o’clock ceremony. I know this fact not so much because I was an overeager newlywed keen on observing trivial relationship landmarks, but because I have a mild case of OCD that compels me to keep track of things. Typically, I count insignificant things, like the steps from my apartment to the nearest subway (341 in comfortable shoes, a dozen more in heels); the comically high occurrence of the phrase “amazing connection” in any given episode of The Bachelor (always in the double digits); the guys I’ve kissed in my thirty-three years (nine). Or, as it was on that rainy, cold afternoon in January, the number of days I had been married before I saw him smack-dab in the middle of the crosswalk of Eleventh and Broadway.

From the outside, say if you were a cabdriver watching frantic jaywalkers scramble to cross the street in the final seconds before the light changed, it was only a mundane, urban snapshot: two seeming strangers, with little in common but their flimsy black umbrellas, passing in an intersection, making fleeting eye contact, and exchanging stiff but not unfriendly hellos before moving on their way.

But inside was a very different story. Inside, I was reeling, churning, breathless as I made it onto the safety of the curb and into a virtually empty diner near Union Square. Like seeing a ghost, I thought, one of those expressions I’ve heard a thousand times but never fully registered until that moment. I closed my umbrella and unzipped my coat, my heart still pounding. As I watched a waitress wipe down a table with hard, expert strokes, I wondered why I was so startled by the encounter when there was something that seemed utterly inevitable about the moment. Not in any grand, destined sense; just in the quiet, stubborn way that unfinished business has of imposing its will on the unwilling.

After what seemed like a long time, the waitress noticed me standing behind the Please Wait to Be Seated sign and said, “Oh. I didn’t see you there. Should’ve taken that sign down after the lunch crowd. Go ahead and sit anywhere.”

Her expression struck me as so oddly empathetic that I wondered if she were a moonlighting clairvoyant, and actually considered confiding in her. Instead, I slid into a red vinyl booth in the back corner of the restaurant and vowed never to speak of it. To share my feelings with a friend would constitute an act of disloyalty to my husband. To tell my older and very cynical sister, Suzanne, might unleash a storm of caustic remarks about marriage and monogamy. To write of it in my journal would elevate its importance, something I was determined not to do. And to tell Andy would be some combination of stupid, self-destructive, and hurtful. I was bothered by the lie of omission, a black mark on our fledging marriage, but decided it was for the best.

“What can I get you?” the waitress, whose name tag read Annie, asked me. She had curly red hair and a smattering of freckles, and I thought, The sun will come out tomorrow.

I only wanted a coffee, but as a former waitress, remembered how deflating it was when people only ordered a beverage, even in a lull between meals, so I asked for a coffee and a poppy seed bagel with cream cheese.

“Sure thing,” she said, giving me a pleasant nod.

I smiled and thanked her. Then, as she turned toward the kitchen, I exhaled and closed my eyes, focusing on one thing: how much I loved Andy. I loved everything about him, including the things that would have exasperated most girls. I found it endearing the way he had trouble remembering people’s names (he routinely called my former boss Fred, instead of Frank) or the lyrics to even the most iconic songs (“Billie Jean is not my mother”). And I only shook my head and smiled when he gave the same bum in Bryant Park a dollar a day for nearly a year—a bum who was likely a Range Rover–driving con artist. I loved Andy’s confidence and compassion. I loved his sunny personality that matched his boy-next-door, blond, blue-eyed good looks. I felt lucky to be with a man who, after six long years with me, still did the half-stand upon my return from the ladies’ room and drew sloppy, asymmetrical hearts in the condensation of our bathroom mirror. Andy loved me, and I’m not ashamed to say that this topped my reasons of why we were together, of why I loved him back.

“Did you want your bagel toasted?” Annie shouted from behind the counter.

“Sure,” I said, although I had no real preference.

I let my mind drift to the night of Andy’s proposal in Vail, how he had pretended to drop his wallet so that he could, in what clearly had been a much-rehearsed maneuver, retrieve it and appear on bended knee. I remember sipping champagne, my ring sparkling in the firelight, as I thought, This is it. This is the moment every girl dreams of. This is the moment I have been dreaming of and planning for and counting on.

Annie brought my coffee, and I wrapped my hands around the hot, heavy mug. I raised it to my lips, took a long sip, and thought of our year-long engagement—a year of parties and showers and whirlwind wedding plans. Talk of tulle and tuxedos, of waltzes and white chocolate cake. All leading up to that magical night. I thought of our misty-eyed vows. Our first dance to “What a Wonderful World.” The warm, witty toasts to us—speeches filled with clichés that were actually true in our case: perfect for each other . . . true love . . . meant to be.

I remembered our flight to Hawaii the following morning, how Andy and I had held hands in our first-class seats, laughing at all the small things that had gone awry on our big day: What part of “blend into the background” didn’t the videographer get? Could it have rained any harder on the way to the reception? Had we ever seen his brother, James, so wasted? I thought of our sunset honeymoon strolls, the candlelit dinners, and one particularly vivid morning that Andy and I had spent lounging on a secluded, half-moon beach called Lumahai on the north shore of Kauai. With soft white sand and dramatic lava rocks protruding from turquoise water, it was the most breathtaking piece of earth I had ever seen. At one point, as I was admiring the view, Andy rested his Stephen Ambrose book on our oversized beach towel, took both of my hands in his, and kissed me. I kissed him back, memorizing the moment. The sound of the waves crashing, the feel of the cool sea breeze on my face, the scent of lemons mixed with our coconut suntan lotion. When we separated, I told Andy that I had never been so happy. It was the truth.

But the best part came after the wedding, after the honeymoon, after our practical gifts were unpacked in our tiny apartment in Murray Hill—and the impractical, fancy ones were relegated to our downtown storage unit. It came as we settled into our husband-and-wife routine. Casual, easy, and real. It came every morning, as we sipped our coffee and talked as we got ready for work. It came when his name popped into my inbox every few hours. It came at night as we shuffled through our delivery menus, contemplating what to have for dinner and proclaiming that one day soon we’d actually use our stove. It came with every foot massage, every kiss, every time we undressed together in the dark. I trained my mind on these details. All the details that comprised our first one hundred days together.

Yet by the time Annie brought my coffee, I was back in that intersection, my heart thudding again. I suddenly knew that in spite of how happy I was to be spending my life with Andy, I wouldn’t soon forget that moment, that tightness in my throat as I saw his face again. Even though I desperately wanted to forget it. Especially because I wanted to.

I sheepishly glanced at my reflection in the mirrored wall beside my booth. I had no business worrying about my appearance, and even less business feeling triumphant upon the discovery that I was, against all odds on an afternoon of running errands in the rain, having an extraordinarily good hair day. I also had a rosy glow, but I told myself that it was only the cold that had flushed my cheeks. Nothing else.

And that’s when my cell phone rang and I heard his voice. A voice I hadn’t heard in eight years and sixteen days.

“Was that really you?” he asked me. His voice was even deeper than I remembered, but otherwise it was like stepping back in time. Like finishing a conversation only hours old.

“Yes,” I said.

“So,” he said. “You still have the same cell number.”

Then, after a considerable silence, one I stubbornly refused to fill, he added, “I guess some things don’t change.”

“Yes,” I said again.

Because as much as I didn’t want to admit it, he was sure right about that.

Bye Bye Crib... Hello Big Girl Bed!

Last night we took the rails off Kenzie's crib and turned it into a toddler bed. She couldn't be more thrilled with the big move to a "big girl" bed. Probably a move that should have happened ages ago. She was so agreeable to a crib we just never made the switch.

Looking at these photos, I see she really was pretty big for us to continue to cage her in like a small animal. Not to mention she weighs 33 lbs and I find myself heaving her over the rails to get her down for a nap. And she can recite the ABC's, Count to 12, and knows how to spell the word "H-E-L-P". So yeah, it was time for the move.

Think we partially didn't do it for so long as even this one little milestone kind of breaks my heart. Everyday my little girl keeps growing up faster and faster. Think we thought this crib would keep her our baby forever.... but this princess definitely has other plans!

After pouring over many beautiful and heartbreaking nominations for the Classy Mommy Mother's Day Big Give, we've selected one super worthy Mama, Jill Nelson, who is currently battling breast cancer, as our "Big Give" winner. I wish I could give the $1200 prize pack to every Mom that was nominated for the Big Give - but I'm not Oprah - and had to select 1 winner.

Moment of Fame

Kenzie and Kyle had their moment of fame (along with Mommy) in the Daily Local News on Mother's Day when this cute photo graced the cover of the Business section in an article titled "Mompreneurs' on the Rise" featuring Classy Mommy. The picture was the most exciting part of the article and it is probably one of the cutest pics my family now has of Kyle. To Cry or Not to Cry.....

We've been struggling for the past few weeks (or should I say months?) getting Kyle to sleep through the night - or at least to limit his wake ups. I am not the type of person to fixate on my lack of sleep. But, yeah, I'd like more sleep. What Mom with toddlers or babies would not? This week we've reached our breaking point. And as Kyle is nearly 6 months, I'm dying to help him learn to fall asleep all by himself. If possible..... as I know this might be a bit of a pipedream!
Kyle has been totally inconsistent in his sleep patterns. He's had some curveballs with the RSV and sleeping in a car seat for 6 weeks and then re-adjusting to a crib. A bunch of random fevers that I think make him feel Blah! and cry for us at night. Yet, he is so sweet and goes right back to bed.... but like I said we really would like for him to learn to fall back asleep all by himself!

The pediatrician whom we adore thinks the way I describe his inconsistent patterns - that sometimes Kyle is probably hungry - partially due to my inconsistent milk supply. I can not keep up with the calories and the hydration.

But lately, I think the teething is really causing a crazy amount of waking - last week the teeth started cutting through the gums and it has been all downhill from there. Causing me to want to ditch the binky as I find him battling with it and taking it in and out. Yet, he seems to totally need it to soothe himself to sleep. (He never uses it during the day) I'd be fine if he only did the binky when he fell asleep, but he wants it when he wakes up multiple times during the night.

Some Moms are telling me to scatter binks throughout the crib and that soon he'll be able to find them and put them in his mouth himself. Sounds like a good strategy - but I can't be bothered setting him up to rely on the binky when I know I'll be taking it away for good at 12 months. This seems a little extreme to me. But I know if I'm desperate and nothing else works, I guess this is what I'll do!

To cry or not to cry. To bink or not to bink. That is the question. What would you do? What do you think? Do we just cry it all out (of course checking on him every few minutes) and ditch the binky all together..... so we don't have to go through taking away his binky when he is 1 year old and we are ready to be done with a pacifier. Or do we keep on giving him the binky when he wakes up?

I loved the cry/soothe method my pediatrician had me use with my daughter when teething disrupted her sleep. It worked like a total charm and I think my doctor is a saint ever since. He said it would work in 3 days. I think it worked in 3 sessions of crying (1 day!)

So we took the plunge last night. Ditched the binky at bedtime. And made cute Kyle cry it out when he woke up. Heartbreaking right? Mike and I went back and forth in his room every 5 mins for a 1 minute visit. No binky. He cried for about 35-40 minutes. We felt terrible but then he totally fell asleep and didn't wake up till 630 when Kenzie was making a racket. So he never even ate 1 x during the night.....

Promising results.... And this photo today shows his little finger soothing him. Let's hope he finds it tonight! Feel free to offer advice if you are inspired!

Wordless Wednesday: Jumperoo Time!

Thought this video of Kyle best captures how he is spending his days lately. Loving the jumperoo as all he wants to do is stand - not to mention he can't yet sit. Entertainers, exersaucers and jumperoos are lifesavers at this stage. He doesn't fit into our exersaucer yet so this jumperoo is his life right now! Sometimes he just chills in it with his Chan Vulli Teether and other times he goes wild and crazy. Regardless, Kenzie keeps him company as she is coming and going running the circuit around our downstairs. She loves to either harass him or give him extra love and kisses all while he is jumping here there and everywhere.

Celebrity Moms Give Back: Classy Mommy talks with Brenda Novak, Bestselling Author

I had the chance to chat with Brenda Novak, bestselling author and we've chosen to highlight her as a Celebrity Mom that Gives Back. She is totally proof that one person can make a difference. The online auction for diabetes research that she holds on her website every May raised over $150,000 last year. Her goal for 2008 is to raise over $300,000. Wow! Read all about her efforts and perspective on giving back below.

Classy Mommy: I find having children inspires many Moms to better themselves as we all want to be role models for our kids and make the world a better place for them to grow up in. Since having a child, how has your perspective on giving back changed?
Having a child definitely changes the focus of your life's efforts. Suddenly, there is someone you care about more than yourself and you begin to realize how your actions, and the actions of others in the same sphere of influence, affect this little person. But I can't say that merely "having" children gave me a burning desire to make a difference in the world. I definitely wanted to be a good role model, but I didn't feel the need for a tremendous amount of extra effort until the safety and well-being of one of my children was threatened by diabetes. Then I kicked into gear and made the decision that I would fight to make a positive difference in the world, not only for “my” children, but for all children.

Classy Mommy: What are some of your favorite causes?
Diabetes research is first on my list. So many suffer from this disease and yet I feel, with more effort, attention and research dollars, we can beat it. Multiple Schlerosis research is another cause that's close to my heart. My mother was diagnosed with MS when I was eight years old, so she's been handicapped almost my whole life, and my sister was just diagnosed two years ago. When I was young, I watched yet another relative die from MS in a very short time. Going to see him when he couldn't see, speak or move definitely left an impact.

Classy Mommy: Why are they important to you?
My son is eleven years old. He was diagnosed with diabetes when he was five. My father died from a diabetes-related heart attack at 64. I can't help but feel I'm working against a ticking time bomb. When my father passed, I was only 19. He's never met any of my children, hasn't been around to give them the unconditional love that has always provided the core of my happiness. I don't want to see my son suffer from complications and die early (or anyone else's child).

Classy Mommy: Are you involved with any specific organizations? Amongst all the worthy causes, how did you decide?
When my son was first diagnosed, I wanted to get involved in fundraising for a cure, but he was the youngest of five children, and I was just launching my fiction-writing career. I was so terribly busy and stressed with the adjustments and constant care he now required, I had no idea where I'd find the time to become an advocate, but I kept looking for opportunities. Then, one day, I went to a silent auction at his elementary school. The committee who put it together had done a fabulous job, but they didn't get much of a turn out for the event. I remember standing there, looking at all the amazing items up for bid, thinking there had to be a way to reach more people and generate more support. And then it hit me. Because of my books, I'd already established a great deal of traffic at my web site, and I'd made some fabulous contacts in the world of publishing. I decided to take advantage of that established traffic, and to utilize my contacts, by doing my own on-line auction for diabetes research at my Web site every May (in honor of Mother's Day). The first year (2005), I raised $35,000, the next year, nearly $70,000. The third year, we hit $153,700. Now I'm facing Year 4, and have added a beneficiary - the Diabetes Research Institute, a place I have come to know as the best hope for a cure. I'm very excited to see if we'll double again. We have nearly 100% more items, some of which can't be found anywhere else, so I'm definitely hopeful that we will. It's become a real labor of love--and an obvious choice for me."

Classy Mommy: Why is this particular cause special to you?
Brenda Novak's On-line Auction has become a second job for me, if you will. It's something I work on year-round in an attempt to make more and more of an impact. I started it for my son, but after hearing from so many who face the same struggles we do, I'm doing it for everyone who has a connection to diabetes. I guess you could say I'm on a crusade to see a cure in my lifetime.

Classy Mommy: How can others get involved?
There are a lot of ways to help with my event. I can always use volunteers to gather more items to put up for auction, and I can use help publicizing the event. It helps just to have people shop at the event, and to encourage their friends and family to do the same. This is a grass-roots effort, a coming together of hundreds of writers, editors, agents, and diabetes sympathizers and, as I watch it grow, I'm seeing just how much of an impact we can make. I can also use clerical help, as loading the items and following up on every donation is very time intensive, and I have more pressing deadlines with my novel writing career than ever before. Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to all you Mommies, Grandma's, Aunties, and Nana's! Hope you all had a relaxing and marvelous day with your families. We had a great day. Mike organized a cute card from the kids when I was at the trail going for a run this morning. He pulled out the paint and did a handprint of Kenzie and an adorable footprint of Kyle. I was a little late getting dinner reservations organized at Bonefish Grill - so we had to settle for an 11:30 lunch with my Mom, Dad, hubby Mike, Kenzie and Kyle. The thought of fish in the morning was a little weird - but then again our day starts at about 5:30 so we were able to get over it and enjoy the meal. Bonefish Grill is a favorite of mine - if you've never been - totally go! It's owned by the same company that owns Roy's - a restaurant that became my all-time favorite on our honeymoon in Hawaii. Mike and I still eat at Roy's (and order chocolate souffle) anytime we get a coveted date night in Philadelphia which is obviously few and far between now that we've got 2 kids. (Date nights now are usually grabbing a quick 45 minute bite and a movie in our town - which is still a fabulous time - just not as time consuming as a trip into the city!) Kyle was an angel and slept the entire time. The kids were so great we took them to the park and Dad even helped me run a quick errand to cash in on the latest Babies R Us coupons. Kenzie most have known it was Mother's Day as we didn't have 1 time out all day! Grabbed her a pair of Dora sunglasses for the summer sun and let take advantage of this sweet ride with Zoe too. All in all - a good day!

Nintendo Wii is an early Mother's Day Surprise!

My hubby is really going to need to do a super special Mother's Day gift to top the Nintendo Wii we received to review 2 days ago. So exciting! However, I think Mike thought it was a Father's Day present - he was like a little kid at Christmas digging into the package, pulling out the cords and immediately hooking everything up. Excited to see him so involved in a Classy Mommy review. I am CRAZY for the Tennis. I love how you move around so much with Wii - I honestly feel like I am playing tennis and find myself in the ready position between strokes and jogging in place waiting for the ball to come. If you've never tried the Wii - it is hard to "get" just how phenomenal it is until you experience it. I've heard the BUZZ but thought it was something just for teenage boys into video games. This is product is totally for the entire family - and will be so entertaining for my hubby and I when we are always at home on a Friday or Satuday night with 2 little children who go to bed early!

We'll have to post some videos of our family in action on the Wii. Pretty Hilarious. Especially as 2 year old Kenzie has even joined in the fun - prefering baseball and bowling at age 2. She doesn't quite get it though, but knows we are having so much fun with it - so her idea of real fun is to PRETEND to be Mommy or Daddy and take our controller into her cottage as she prefers to "play" on the imaginary tv. Very cute.

Wordless Wednesday: Caught Sleeping

Mike caught Kyle and I taking a catnap on the sofa last weekend. I love this pic as I know these "baby" days are going to be over before I know it. Trying to savor every moment but it is tough sometimes as I also find myself rushing ahead for the next exciting milestone. Do you ever feel this way too? Like you are trying to make time stop and standstill but also can't wait for the next stage or age? I remember on my wedding day, a good friend gave me some excellent advice. She said to take "mental snapshots" throughout the day and night and that this would help the beautiful moments stick with me in the years to come. I believe it worked! Now, I'm trying this same strategy this time around with the new baby knowing this most likely will be my last. And time moves so very fast.........

Moving into the Playskool Rose Petal Cottage

Kenzie is all over the Playskool Rose Petal Cottage. She was so excited - and a bit impatient when we were putting it together - so we let her move in a bit early! As we were assembling all the poles and putting the cover on, she decided to set up her dolls in the cradle and catch up on her Disney Princess reading! As soon as we finished, she was quick to invite her new BFF, 5 month old Kyle, into her cottage on the blue "boy" side" of her new home. Kyle, sporting a Happy Panda tee, was delighted to move in as he adores hanging with his big sis and watching her crazy antics.
All kids love tents and I'd say the Rose Petal Cottage is step above as it is complete with a little oven, washer dryer, sink, and nursery gear. Kenzie loves pretending to bake cupcakes in the oven as she preps to throw a party and the washer is a bit hit as well. I keep catching her taking off her socks (and sometimes more!) and putting them in her little machine.

We think the Rose Petal Cottage - which includes the stove - is a deal at $80. It is something kids from 1-5 will totally love so it has a very long shelf life and compared to the character tents priced from $20-$40. You are actually getting a real little "home" for the kids to call their own. So far this cottage has provided us with endless hours of imaginary play which is totally priceless. We are huge fans of toys that let us role play as I find the entertainment and learning is so much richer this way.

Classy Mommy Big Give Update - Care Bears lends a hand!

The response to the Classy Mommy "Big Give" to benefit a Mom impacted by Breast Cancer has been unbelievable. Thanks to my bloggy friends who posted to spread the word. Want to send a shout to Amanda at Parents Magazine's Goody Blog, Whitney from Mommies with Style, Kim at Baby Center's Momformation, Leanne at The Full Mommy, Jodi at Moms Favorite Stuff, Jamie at Blonde Mom Blog, Dawn at Mom2My6Pack, Amy at Citizen Mom, and any others if I missed you!!

I started Classy Mommy 18 months ago hoping to make a difference somehow. I truly believe even the littlest efforts - when they all add up - can make a big impact. At the end of the day, it seems the whole pay it forward thing really is true. One good thought or deed can often inspire others and before we know it all kinds of feel good stuff is happening.

We have received many beautiful and heartbreaking nominations for worthy moms who have been touched by breast cancer. It will be very difficult to choose 1 winner. I was explaining my predicament to the folks at Play Along Toys - who make tons of goodies us Moms are familiar with like Cabbage Patch Dolls, Care Bears, and more.

And what do you know? They offered to give us 4 Runner Up prizes. I couldn't be more thrilled at a big corporation helping out a regular mom trying to do good. Cause that is what this Big Give is really all about. So 4 extra Moms will be able to receive the brand new - soon to be released in September of 2008 - Care Bears Pink Power Bear. They are valued at $19.95. Next fall, when they are for sale, $1.00 will be donated to breast cancer research with each purchase. Together with the Care Bears, the power of caring is stronger than ever!

Hopefully, besides just brightening the day of a Mom impacted by breast cancer, this giveaway will also raise awareness about breast cancer and remind all us ladies we need to do self exams too.
