Strawberries Galore!

Summertime means strawberries galore in our household. Mackenzie & I can't get enough of them. We eat them almost daily for a snack and sometimes in cereal, on pancakes in the morning or even in a smoothie for a tasty treat. With all the strawberries we eat, Mackenzie loves sporting this Classy Mommy fave - a Happy Panda Strawberry tee originally from last summer. It is a little tight now that she is a year older....... but she loves that she can also match Kyle who has a Happy Panda tee with a Soccer Ball on it!

California had a record smashing strawberry season this year and I just came across these fun tidbits that remind me of snapple facts! Share these ones with your kids:

-If you lined up all of the strawberries grown in California in one straight line, they would wrap around the entire Earth 15 times.
-Guessing game! There are about 200 seeds on the outside of each strawberry.
-California harvests over a billion pounds of strawberries annually.
-One acre of land (about the size of one football field) grows about 50,000 pounds of strawberries - that's the same weight as 4 elephants!

And if you want to mix up your strawberry routine check out this link as hundreds of strawberry recipes can be found here. For more strawberry entertainment, Visit Strawberryville, an online destination for kids full of interactive games, activities and kid-friendly recipes!

Preserve with an Eco-Friendly Toothbrush from Recycline and save $1.00

Hooray for Recycline's line of Preserve brand everyday eco-friendly consumer products! Before getting a Preserve Toothbrush in the mail to review a few weeks ago, I am ashamed to say I actually had never heard of Preserve. Now my family and I are going to be 100% using their line of toothbrushes forevermore.... (Junior sizes are available too!)
Honestly, I think it would be sinful to ever buy another brand of toothbrush now that I'm aware of the positive environmental impact of this little toothbrush.

What's the big deal? An eco-friendly toothbrush with no sacrifices! I love the soft feel of this styling curvy toothbrush, the price is right at $2.04 at Target, the entire toothbrush is made of 100% recycled plastics - including recycled yogurt cups, and the packaging is a reusable travel case too! And when it’s time to replace your the Preserve toothbrush, you can print a mailing label from the Recycline website and mail it back (for free!) to be recycled into plastic decking, picnic tables and boardwalks!

Download a coupon online for $1.00 off at Target. And check out Preserve's other products like razors, tableware, and more.

Pool Upgrade?

Mackenzie, 2 1/2, thinks this pool we bought for $5 at Babies R Us when she was 9 months is still divine! Practicing back floats, blowing bubbles and even jumping into the pool makes perfect sense as long as you have a body of water to work with. We may desperately need a pool upgrade - but I'd argue that when it comes to summer splashing, any kind of water will likely satisfy your kiddies so don't worry about it!

Binky Baggy at Trend Setting Moms

So simple, yet so useful. When I'm home, I always know where to find a pacifier (well, most of the time!). But when I'm traveling, somehow the pacifiers end up all over the place and I never know where to find a clean one when I need it. The colorful binky baggy is a great solution. There are 15 patterns to choose from and they hold at least 6 pacifiers. The fabrics are bright and colorful, so they would be easy to find in a suitcase or diaper bag. Say good-bye to lost pacifiers....just make sure you don't lose the Binky Baggy! $18.

Wordless Wednesday: 5 Year Wedding Anniversary!

Normally this blog is generally all kids all the time....... like my days and nights in general during this phase of my life. Figured I'd pop up this cute photo from my wedding day. Our anniversary happens on a Friday again this year for the 1st time since were married 5 years ago on 6/27/03. Keeping it simple this year given our schedules and the kids. I scored a babysitter for the morning and we hope to play tennis for the 1st time since having my daughter 2 1/2 years ago. Then we'll do dinner and a movie in the evening which is our normal "date" night but is always a refreshing time out and good enough for me.

Ragu in a Pouch for the Microwave Diva

Love these simple and quick Ragu Sauces in a Pouch! I've been a fan of Ragu for years as I think their sauce is sweeter than most so it totally appeals to my taste buds. Plus they've got the all natural sauces that have a full serving of veggies in every 1/2 cup of sauce -fabulous for the kiddies who can be finicky on veggies since we all want to feed our kids well which Ragu realizes too!

And I gotta be totally honest with you all... my blog may be named Classy Mommy but I'm far from classy when it comes to anything involving the kitchen as my cooking leaves much to be desired so I am a Pasta Sauce in a Jar kind of girl. I'm a far cry from the Domestic Diva -I am the convenience and shortcut queen. Luckily for me - cooking Frozen Meatballs in the micro, heating Ragu, boiling Rotini Noodles in a pot, and serving a salad 100% constitutes making dinner in my household.

With 2 kids under 3 years old, Ragu Pouches are the perfect amount of sauce for a family meal at our house as the serving size is about 1/2 that of a regular Ragu Jar. This is ideal for me as there is no waste and no clean up. Just snip the corner of the bag, pop it in the micro to nuke it for 90 seconds, and then pour it over your pasta. Bon Appetit!

An Artist in the Works

Our little Mackenzie is quite the artist at 2 1/2 years old - obsessed with the doodleboard, coloring, markers, painting, and sidewalk chalk drawings. When I was in the shower, she interrupted me to show me this beautiful picture. Totally impressed me with this rendition she made all by herself using the doodle pen to create curly hair and the doodle magnets for her facial features.
Not quite Picasso but maybe someday!

Philly Mom Blogger Mixer Wrap Up!

Friday night our plans to get local philly mommybloggers together in the flesh came to fruition!

We all hooked up for a dinner at Buca di Peppo. Graco, who coincidentally happens to be headquartered a few miles away, offered to pick up the tab and join us for the fun! Us lucky ladies scored some swag too which was an unexpected bonus! Mom Central offered gorgeous flowers and tickets to the Ringling Brothers Circus .Aprons from the Handy Guy's Podcast, free Orville Redenbacher Popcorn, and crafts and goodies from NewBaby.com too. You can see all our photos here at Flickr.

And my friend Karma was good to me Friday evening as I was 1 of 2 Mommies to win their versatile, affordable, and long lasting brand new Graco Nautilus car seat. Hooray!

We desperately need this as when he graduates from his current seat we don't have anything to move him into as Kenzie is still not in a booster. Kyle will be able to pop into this forward facing seat once he hits 20 lbs and 1 year - and the best part is that this seat totally converts into a Booster style seat so with Graco's NAUTILUS, I'll NEVER need to buy a carseat again. This all feels like Karma to me since Graco stepped up to help my efforts with the "classy mommy big give" and now here I am lucky enough to win a seat for my family. So thank you forces of the universe for aligning to solve my car seat needs!

Always kind of weird wondering what it will be like to meet email buddies and fellow bloggers in person but trust me now that I've done this a few times - it is sooooo worth it! Even Mel, from Life is Like a Box of Chocolates who suffered 4 hours of traffic driving up from the beach in Delaware sounds like she had a grand enough time. And don't be worried about having nothing to talk about.... we only had a room for 3 hours and I'm sure we could have hung out for 5 hours and still had more to say! I felt like we barely touched the surface.

Loved everyone I met and we hope to organize another gathering in September if everyone is game! Jo-Lynne from Musings of a Housewife posted a bunch of pics on her site and after meeting her - I can see why she runs Chic Critique too as this Mama who lives only a few miles from me is totally styling and fab. Mel also agrees that Musings is quite the fashionista in this funny post chronicling her adventures to the Philly Mommy Blogger event! And for the record, Beth from the Total Mom Haircut does indeed have fine locks.

We all had a super time getting to know each other and Lindsay from Graco kept up with the outside world twittering away as any savvy Social Media Exec would do.... And we were all quite impressed and intriqued with Mommy Needs Therapy's woeful tale of needing to change her blogs name and address after a workplace security breach impacted her Blog. Beth thought this was quite "Dooce of her"- however it was actually Twitter that got her in trouble! So really this was indeed "Dooce times 2 of her" according to Lindsay at Graco!
Thanks again for coming!I'll be following you on Twitter and your blogs! Let's do it again soon!

Wordless Wednesday: Daddy's Little Girl

I didn't do a Father's Day post as I was too busy enjoying the day with my family in real life. So this one is for the Daddies. I can't imagine doing this job alone! An extra special thank you to my Mike who it's the most amazing father ever to our little ones. Hopefully, we'll get some shots of Kyle, Kenzie, and you bonding at the beach this summer! Remeber these photos of little Kenzie? 12 months in the Cayman Islands loving the beach. And last summer at 20 months - you so patiently taking her care of her when she was terrified of SAND of all things while at the Jersey Shore. Glad that phase passed quickly. I can't wait for our next family vacation together. We love you!

It's an Itsy Bitsy Blue Bikini....

After taking some swim lessons last week, we all basked in the sun and baby pool for a few short hours this weekend at our local YMCA.

Kenzie was thrilled with her new swimsuit or should i say bikini that I bought on a whim without much thought.... She totally has a regular suit that she normally wears that I love from Patsy Aiken that holds up beautifully too and a one piece I bought at the end of last season on sale from Baby Gap. Randomly saw this on super sale at Old Navy and I thought this would be fun for her and she adores it now. I wear a bikini so didn't really think twice about her doing it either.

But now I'm wondering.... Is a bikini too much for a 2 year old or totally cute and no big deal?

A Disney Princess Canopy

So Disney decided to close about 90 stores across the country (or so I heard).... call it bad luck or good fortune for me, but the Disney store at my local mall was one of these casualties. While at the mall, my Mom and I with both kids in tow decided to try to score a few items at steep discounts despite the wild crowds full of Moms rummaging items with their toddlers, strollers, and preschoolers - obvioulsy we fit right into the crowd!
We saw a lady checking out with this cool Disney Princess canopy. I never would have bought it for $50 - especially as I would have presumed it would look cheesy. She told us the price was $7.99. My Mom and I figured we'd try it out - even if we only left it up for a week or two we figured Mackenzie would get a real thrill if we turned her bed into a "Princess" bed. The top circular portion profiles 4 famed Disney Princesses including - Jasmine, Belle, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella. Well as you can tell from this photo - I think the canopy actually truly looks enchanting and adds a real touch of little girl to her bedroom. So it looks like this magical canopy will be up for ages much to the delight of my 2 year old and me too! Honestly, it is so cute, looking at it now I think I would have paid $150 if I knew then what I know now!

And this $7.99 Disney Canopy purchase now surpasses my previous best buy for the summer of $13.98 at Target - for an Ariel shimmery polyester nightgown that Mackenzie has worn and still wears almost every day often to our chargrin! Well worth every penny for the sheer joy she gets out of it - we just need to set daily rules on when and where she is allowed to go out in public in this nightgown!

Cornell Reunion Weekend - with the kiddos!

Celebrated my 5 year b-school and 10 year undergrad reunion at Cornell this weekend. Ended up bringing the whole family along which was really sweet if somewhat chaotic. Since Mike and I met in '96 during school it kind of felt like coming full circle. It was our first pseudo-family vacation as parents toting 2 kids 2 and under away from home for 3 days. It all went smooth and Kenzie and Kyle both deserve MVP awards for battling the heat, the wacky schedules and avoiding any temper tantrums. Connected with old friends from all over the country and some who came from as far as London, Japan, and Dubai for the weekend. Very cool. 3 days wasn't enough time to savor all of Ithaca although Mackenzie felt like this was a total complete family vacation and the best trip ever. (Wait till she goes to DisneyWorld or the beach! ) Kenzie even fell in love with Uncle Artie and his bachelor pad where we crashed overnight -overwhelming his loft and townhome with baby gear and 4 additional bodies in the living room each night. Thanks to the Johnson School at Cornell for putting on some super kid friendly events too as Kenzie was able to run around Sage Hall pretending to escape shark attacks, meet a clown up close, and get her face painted which at age 2 is a dream come true.

Celebrity Moms Give Back: Nancy Travis from the Bill Engvall Show talks with Classy Mommy

Classy Mommy talks with Nancy Travis, a star in TBS’s Top-Rated Family Sitcom THE BILL ENGVALL SHOW, to return for a Second Season on June 12th, about giving back. Nancy Travis made her feature film debut in the blockbuster comedy Three Men and A Baby. She also recently appeared in the film Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and The Jane Austin Book Club. She resides in Los Angeles with her husband and two children.
Classy Mommy: I find having children inspires many moms to better themselves, as we all want to be role models for our kids and make the world a better place for them. Since having a child, how has your perspective on giving back changed?
My second son, Jeremy, was born prematurely. It was a scary, emotional time. If it weren't for the fine doctor and nurses who took care of him and especially the rapid advances in research and treatment, I wouldn't have the healthy son I do now. So I have recently started a charity, "Jump Start", to raise money to endow the chair of Neonatology at the hospital where my son was born. Also, I am alarmed by global warming and active in promoting a greener planet. Regardless of the facts and science, I am amazed at how people can deny the waste we generate and the pollution we cause.

Classy Mommy: What are some of your favorite causes?
In addition to my efforts on behalf of neonatology and the environment, I support the Arthritis Foundation. I’m also passionate about animals, so I give generously to animal rescue - even wolves!

Classy Mommy: Why are these charities and causes important to you?
My mother suffers from very severe rheumatoid arthritis, and I have watched her struggle with chronic pain and become wheelchair bound. So that is why I support the Arthritis Foundation and advocate for stem-cell research and anything that will speed the cure of auto-immune diseases. My support for animals extends from the wonderful dogs we got from a local pet rescue organization.

Classy Mommy: Are you involved with any specific organizations? Amongst all the worthy causes, how did you decide?
I believe you decide on the cause you want to be associated with by how profoundly you or someone you love is affected by it. Everything I’m involved with stems directly from my personal connections to the issues.

The charity I am currently pioneering is called "Jump Start,” to raise money to endow the chair of Neonatology at the hospital where my son was born. We are in the process of organizing our first fundraiser and Web site.

Classy Mommy: How can others get involved?
Apart from that, I would suggest getting involved in whatever moves you. If you can't give money, then by all means find a group and give of your time. You can always start your own charity. It is daunting at first and a great deal of work, but it can be very rewarding. A little bit goes a long way.

Thanks to Graco, the Classy Mommy Big Give is able to keep on giving back to deserving Moms impacted by Breast Cancer. Thank you Graco for helping the Classy Mommy Big Give brighten someone's day with these generous gifts!
The nominees that we will recognize with a gift from Graco include the following deserving Moms.

Night on the Town

Friday night we took the kids downtown for dinner, a stroll, and some super yummy ice cream from the local non-chain ice cream parlor. After about 3 tortuous weeks of Kyle being a total wreck from teething, we are thrilled that his angelic personality has returned - at least until the next fever, tooth, or round of shots!

Figured we better leverage the good times and head out of the house for some family fun. Kenzie thinks she is one cool cat in these Dora sunglasses. And she is in heaven with this bowl of strawberry ice cream. Kyle chilled in the stroller the entire evening but this little guy is going to be a handful soon.
Just started crawling short distances yesterday and he is beginning to cruise around in this walker (total lifesaver of a product!) He'll be 6 months this week - can't believe it and wish I could just freeze time to enjoy these cuties forever.
