CBS 3 interviews Classy Mommy at home!!!!!

Totally amazing day! Having an adorable news producer and camera man in our home was so blogworthy we totally had to take some pictures.CBS 3 -the Philly affiliate of CBS decided to do a news story on Classy Mommy at our home. They confirmed at about 4 pm that they would arrive at 6 tonight!!! So much fun. During the meltdown hour of 6 pm - 7 pm the kids totally held it together even with strangers and bright lights and a huge camera in the house.
Kenzie even warmed up to the camera and was dying to show some of her drawings on film too. Very cute. Can't wait to see what angle they take with the story. They talked to me for about an hour but I assume the segment will be just a few quick snippets with all the fancy editing. It is supposed to air either tonight or tomorrow night during the 11PM news in the Philadelphia market. Thank you CBS !!!!!

Classy Mommy Joins Wal-Mart's Mommyblogger 11 Moms "Money Saving Moms" Team

Hooray! I've been invited to take part in a cool campaign sponsored by Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart has invited a team of "11 Moms" to serve as experts and submit money saving tips via video as a part of their Money Saving Moms campaign to launch this September.

I've been vlogging ever since I launched Classy Mommy 2 years ago so this campaign is a natural fit for me. I'm teamed up with a dozen super interesting and diverse women who all have their own unique websites offering everything from couponing strategies, technology expertise, domestic advice, frugal tips, product reviews, and general mommyblogging tips.

Here's a list of my team!
http://thecentsiblesawyer.blogspot.com/ - The "Cent"sible Sawyer - http://www.geekmommy.net/ - GeekMommy's WebLife - Lucretia
http://www.thedomesticdiva.org - The Domestic Diva
http://www.jessicaknows.com/ - Jessica Knows - Jessica
http://www.momadvice.com/ - MomAdvice - Amy
http://www.beingfrugal.net - Being Frugal - Lynnae
http://www.dealseekingmom.com - Deal Seeking Mom - Tara
http://frugalupstate.blogspot.com - Frugal Upstate - Jenn
http://www.kingdomfirstmom.com - Keeping the Kingdom First - Alyssa
http://www.couponcravings.com - Coupon Cravings - Erin
http://www.fromdatestodiapers.com/ From Dates to Diapers -Christine

Our agreement to participate in this campaign has caused a bit of a stir in the Blogosphere - as we are unpaid for our video submissions. I tend to stay out controversy on the Internet, but obviously as 1 of the 11 Moms, I'm certainly smack in the middle of it as my decision to participate with these terms impacts the project and what people think of me.

I truly feel I understand both sides to this heated issue. My perspective is that the opportunity for the 11 Moms is one that would be difficult to turn down and I feel very fortunate to be included in this project. Wal-Mart has made it very clear that NOTHING is required of us - and all 11 of us are savvy Moms who did not just naively say YES let me work for you - for free. I've been vlogging for 2 years so this is a total fit for my skill set and a great way to generate new content for my website in medium I already enjoy working with. Wal-Mart has made it clear that "possibly" other revenue earning oportunities MAY exist for us in the future and that they would try to present opportunities to us if and when possible. For instance, I've been given a chance to attend BlogWorld in Las Vegas. I'm thrilled to go to this conference - and I certainly could not have afforded to fly myself there or pay the hefty conference fee on my own. Folks have commented that "what we are doing makes it harder for others to then get paid for their work." I completely understand this thought process but the dilemma is that if I did not say YES, I am certain there are 100 other Moms who could take my place. The 11 Moms Wal-Mart gig will enable me to possibly gain exposure for my own personal website, enhance my social media expertise, take an inside peek at the world's largest retailer, and perhaps influence future social media campaigns and money saving campaigns at Wal-Mart. How could I say no? Thus, I bet the majority of Moms after careful thought would also have agreed as did all 11 of us.

Are mommy bloggers an unlimited resource? The voice of Moms is finally being heard through blogging and social media - but just like being a stay at home mom does not "pay" , are corporations unjustly rewarding Moms for the work we do and the perspective we offer? Or does it not even occur to corporations with their magnificent marketing budgets to pay a stipend to mommybloggers for the consulting and perspective we offer?

In the case of our Wal-Mart project - I get the sense that Wal-Mart is trying to trigger an independent community - where we don't "sell" Wal-Mart- instead Wal-Mart is utilizing our skills to help launch this Money Saving Community. Personally, I feel our WalMart project and other's like it may SOMEDAY enable all of us to build our resumes for a return to the corporate world or for more PAID consulting opportunities as Corporations continue to realize the value of momfluentials, Social Media, and the "Mommy Blogger". So, that's my 2 cents.

We are all really excited to network with each other, learn more about Wal-Mart's corporate culture during a visit planned for this October, and hopefully gain exposure for our own websites via Wal-Mart's marketing muscle.

Wordless Wednesday: Zoo Days

Today was just one of those marvelous days that happen when you least expect it. And makes being a parent taste so good - even after a week of sick kids with adventures including puking in the car, diaper explosions in the car seat and 2 rounds of 104 + fevers. I'm at a stage where I've come to accept I'll never likely sleep through the night again or read more than 1 paragraph while at the beach for at least the forseeable future. Or of course sleep past 6:00 AM either. But that's okay cause there are days like today! Perfect weather and our day at the zoo. No temper tantrums and just pure joy and appreciation from the kids - riding the Swan Boats and super mini choo choo train, loving the animals, and a family adventure high above Philadelphia in the ABC Zoo Balloon ( Kyle at 8 Months included!) I'll remember today the next time the going gets tough for sure - cause it does always turn around again!

Wordless Wednesday: Happy Days

With Kenzie battling some kind of infection or bug right now, I'm remembering some happier days from the past few weeks. Hopefully she is turning the corner after her fever hit 105.2 this morning. Mom's nightmare, the doctors are used to it but you can imagine I nearly fell over when I took it 3 x to be sure I wasn't reading wrong! Hopefully, it is all good now and she will be on the up and up..... the Tylenol is controlling the fever. Thanks to my Twitterifc pals for their advice!

What a beautiful day to eat a brown popsicle!

To be 2 again! The joys and the mess. The simple pleasures of life are all in the moment. I really need to try to live a little more like my daughter and focus on the positive of each passing delight. On eating her first fudgiscle on a gorgeous sunny day, Kenzie exclaimed upon her first taste - "What a beautiful day to eat a brown popsicle! I love this!" Very cute. And she was truly surprised with the brown color given I'd only ever given her the fruity natural types!

Classy Mommy Giveaway: Thomas & Friends: The Great Discovery DVD 3 Winners

Win it! We got a sneak peek at a screener copy of the new Thomas & Friends: The Great Discovery movie soon to be released on DVD on 9/9/08. This is the 1st full length movie style release for Thomas - all about Thomas discovering and then restoring a long lost town on Sodor. I would recommend this over any other Thomas dvd's we've ever reviewed. I found it a more exciting adventure for sure! As expected my 2.5 year old was enthralled, but what parents will like best is that Pierce Brosnan of 007 fame was the narrator. Very cool. And I totally got a kick out of the cheeky "train like" play on expressions and exclaimations used again and again.

Classy Mommy Giveaway: Dante Beatrix Backpack from Oompa

It's August and I can just feel the Back to School spirit wherever I go! Kenzie is prepping for 2 days a week of preschool - and I'm all about finding just the right gear to keep her styling. And I've found just the backpack - only her preschool has a regulation that all bags must NOT have zippers - think tote style for convenience and to avoid any pre-schooler zipper woes! So that leaves me with a fabulous opportunity to giveaway one of my favorite backpacks!

This modern and cheeky monkey backpack by Dante Beatrix sold at Oompa is up for grabs! Value $35.99. Leave a comment on this post telling me what you like best about the incredible finds at Oompa.com by August 24th,2008. US RESIDENTS only.

Disney Music Block Party: Crazy about the Imagination Movers

The Disney Music Block Party truly rocked! Our family had an incredible time when Disney took over a corner of Fairmount Park in Philadelphia - and we're hoping they'll be back again in 2009 as Kenzie is already begging us to "go there again!" And when we weren't jamming and dancing in the grass, Kenzie & her best friend Kylie went crazy cutting a rug in the Disney AM Radio Tent complete with stage and dance floor. I didn't even know there was a Disney Radio station on 640 AM! We'll definitely be checking that out now.

The higlight of the event was definitely listening to the Imagination Movers play - and meeting them in person. I'll be posting an interview with them soon so be on the look out! I think they totally stole the show - even more so than the ever popular Dan Zanes band. If the stars align for these folks, and it looks like they are with a TV show to hit on September 6th, I think I might just have met the next Wiggles type phenomenon. The Imagination Movers worked the crowd and got everyone dancing. Even cooler they seem like the most likeable down to earth normal guys - just like one of us. Both before and after their segment on stage they were milling throughout the park meeting families and children for photo ops and conversation. The Imagination Movers have what it takes to be true children's band rock stars as both the Parents and Kids love them.

We loved all the bands. And what made it even more enjoyable was that we know so many of the songs since we have everyone's CD's compliments of a review tour with Mom Central. The Disney Records include many fabulous bands like They Might Be Giants, Disney Block Party compilation CD, Imagination Movers, Choo Choo Soul, Ralph's World, etc. and are definitely a fantastic investment as we have been listening to at least 1 CD daily for the past 10 days! You can buy them here.

The Playskool Play Experience took the event up a notch and made it totally ideal for families with children needing to explore and burn some creative energy. Think Play-Doh tents, Mr Potato Head tents, big sandboxes filled with Tonka Trucks, Giant Inflatable Drums for the kids to bang away on and more!

We'll be back next year!

Disney Music Block Party Here We Come!

Yahoo! Tomorrow we are heading to Philly's Fairmount Park to join the crowds to revel and dance at the Disney Music Block Party with all the Disney Playhouse bands we all obsess over - think Imagination Movers, Dan Zanes, Choo-Choo Soul and more. I've been listening to all these CD's along with the actual compilation record they are now selling called the Disney Music Block Party (which also includes the Doodlebops, They Might Be Giants, Johnny & the Sprites and many other faves!)

Hopefully we'll make it through the day with no potty accidents or temper tantrums. And if all goes well it looks like we might also get to meet the Imagination Movers in person for a Classy Mommy close up. I am so excited I can hardly stand it - I just hope the kids hold out! Kenzie loves their song "Can you Do it!" and we've been singing it for months!

I'm sure the kids will be going wild - and I'm curious if there will be any obsessed Mommy fans. When we went to the Doodle Bops concert in April we saw a pregnant Mom dressed in full Dee Dee garb (including the boots and a feather boa!) Later that day we saw her escorted away from the front rows close to the stage -guess she was trying to sneak a fab seat!

We're bringing Kenzie and Kyle and plan to meet up with another family who is also bringing their 2 year old Kylie - along with their 6 week old newborn. Should be a little crazy but with all these adults we'll be able to make it work!

I'm totally excited to see what this event is all about - the event runs from 1 - 6 and Playskool also has some kind of incredible "Playskool"Play Experience as well. I'm imagining tunnels and castle sized Moonbounces and Playhouses but I really have no idea what it will entail. I'm sure Mackenzie and Kylie will be all over that all with some 2,000 other kids. If the kids get sick next week at least we'll know which culprit to blame........
