A Fabulous "Mom's Night In" for Philly Bloggers

What a night! Over 20 Mom bloggers, entrepreneurs & writers from the Philadelphia region were treated to a classic Role Mommy event - "Mom's Night In" which was sponsored by Slendertone. Thanks to you both for this incredible escape! And for those who couldn't make it we missed you and hope you'll enjoy the pics and this cool video montage Role Mommy created for us. The kids and I make a cute appearance near the end of the video - and as Alice in Wonderland is the flavor of the week, Mackenzie is dressed accordingly!

I'm still recuperating from all the pampering as this truly was an event created just for Moms. Coincidentally, I hosted this soiree from the comforts of my own home - which was magically transformed into a virtual spa. And as you can imagine, while watching 2 kids 3 & under, Mom doesn't usually have much time to primp and pamper herself so this evening was divine. While we enjoyed the usual appetizers and wine & mixed and mingled, we also could divulge in a massage, manicure or a fresh look from a Make-Up Artist. Thanks to Calista Grand, a local spa in the Philly suburbs, my nails look trendy in that stylish purple splash all the movie stars seem to have nowadays!

And even little Mackenzie found the event thrilling.... she delighted in her first official manicure and even had a "makeover." Really, it was just a dusting of blush and brushes, but she was beyond impressed.

We all left with swag bags for free Manicures too along with the opportunity to keep our favorite Slendertone product after we tested them out at our leisure during the party. We had the chance to talk to Bev, founder of SaneFit, about how Slendertone, an FDA approved medical device, can fit into our healthy lifestyle to provide us with a little more "fitness" and "toning" while we might be running around the house chasing after kids, sitting at our laptops, or loading the dishwasher.

You still need to exercise & eat healthy obviously, but the idea is that this is one more tool for your fitness arsenal and healthy lifestyle. I'm no expert, but basically you can control the stimulation of the device (arms, butt, abs) to the threshold that is right for you (remember no pain no gain!) and go about your business for 20 minutes while your muscles contract and relax and ideal tone just the way we'd desire. Very cool! They also had a fabulous "Revive" device that really is for a recovery type situation to help tired and tight muscles relax.

Thanks to all the Philly Mom Bloggers for making this such a fabulous party. Can't wait till we all meet up again. There is nothing like stepping away from the laptop to network and enjoy real life interactions with all these Mama's who revel in social media like myself. Nothing beats connecting in person. Final Countdown to Disney!

I profess I am probably more excited about our trip to Disney World than even my 3 year old daughter. And trust me she is beyond excited. For over a year now, every time she'd find a penny or lose an eyelash, she would make a wish that, "Someday we will visit Disney World." I just can not wait to experience the Mickey magic of Disney through her childish curiousity and perspective.

Booking this trip was a total whirlwind as it was v. last minute as I know many families plan for Disney months to a year in advance. Honestly, I planned it all 5 weeks ago! If you are considering a trip - now is definitely the time to make it happen. Disney is offering 3 free nights for every 4 night trip you book until August 15th, 2009. We are actually only spending 4 nights as we'll also be visiting family but we were able to get 40% off our hotel stay with a special coupon code promotion currently going on when I booked.

So what's our schedule? (People think I'm crazy to go to Disney with a 3 year old and 14 month old but I say it's all about managing your expectations. Playing peekaboo while eating Sloppy Joe's is definitely not the way to keep your toddler clean. But it was all fun and Kyle devoured this meal and truly became a sloppy mess. Nothing a quick bath couldn't undo.

Homemade Play-Doh Recipe - It's a cinch!

This recipe for home made play dough is super easy and even uses basic household ingredients. And I'm no star homemaker and quite undomesticated when it comes to cooking or crafts - but even I think this one is a breeze.

Our preschool first sent us this recipe so we could all bring in a different color for the class to use for the entire school year. I'm guessing this recipe makes the equivalent of at least 6-8 jars of store bought play-doh - and it will last forever if you keep it in the fridge. (picture on left of our results!) Enjoy!

Playdough Recipe

2 Cups Flour

1 Cup Salt

4 teaspoons cream of tartar

2 cups water

2 tablespoons of cooking oil

Food coloring - I just use the required drops based on the instructions for the color we desire.

Mix it all in a saucepan and cook over medium heat until mix pulls away from the sides of the pan. It will not look smooth - and frankly you might think you are doing something wrong but it really will work! Immediately put the Playdough on the counter and knead until smooth.

Bloggers help the Sudanese Quintuplets

Thanks to my friends Mandi and Tara from the One Dollar Give, myself and other bloggers have been inspired to help this beautiful family as they struggle with the exhaustion and financial implications of raising 5 babies.

Adwai Mulual is a Sudanese refugee currently living in the United States with her newborn quintuplets. She arrived in the United States early in her pregnancy to seek her mother-in-law’s blessing according to Sudanese tradition. At that time, she discovered that she was expecting quintuplets and, due to complications, was admitted to the hospital under the care of a team of specialists. In December, she gave birth to 5 beautiful, healthy babies – 1 boy and 4 girls. Her husband has still not met his children, as he is serving with the Sudanese Army. Now, Adwai is facing the decision of living in the richest country of the world in poverty or moving back to war-torn Sudan.

Heartbreaking. And with the birth of the Octuplets, this story became lost in the media. Bloggers have been reaching out to PR firms along with making purchases on registry lists for diapers and wipes that the One Dollar Give was kind enough to create.

Wordless Wednesday: Cardboard is more fun!

After convincing her Poppy to let "her do some painting," Kenzie had a blast with this Calafant Cardboard castle. And with the help of her 1 year old brother, they accidentally managed to get paint on my walls, carpet and each other all before Mommy got home. Thank god for Crayola Washables. Seriously, it all cleaned up in a jiff.

I can barely keep up with all the new releases for the pre-schoolers and kids this month! There are a ton of awesome DVD's - so here's a list of the highlists along with the DVD's we checked out for Mom and Dad.

DEXTER SEASON 1 - now on Blu-Ray & -PRETTY WOMAN now on Blu-Ray

I enjoyed the Blu-Ray new release of Pretty Woman - how awesome to see that movie again after all these years and I've been impressed by the 1st few episodes of Dexter Season 1 on Blu-Ray. I'm probably one of only people on the planet who had not yet seen an episode of Dexter - so it was about time! Especially as I like to think I keep up with my "pop culture". Anyhow, what a cool show and it is amazing how you feel like you don't want this "good guy" serial killer to get caught.

I love toys that help encourage learning - especially early reading and counting skills since I currently have a precocious 3 year old who is a little sponge constantly absorbing knowledge.
