Last month, after receiving free tickets from the Feld Entertainment group and Mom Central, my family attended the Ringling Brother's Zing Zang Zoom Circus show. I haven't attended a circus since I was about 6 years old and my children have never attended. I had low expectations about my wild 18 month old being able to sit through a show, but I'm telling you he was captivated and made it through 1 hour and 45 minutes of a 2 hour performance. He loved the dancing dogs, animals and generally all of the fanfare. And it was no surprise that my 3 year old also was enchanted with the experience too. Truly, we had a thrilling day at the circus and it was a wonderful outing for our family. We'll definitely return again next year! It far surpassed any expectations I had prior to seeing the show.

Mom was most impressed with the Dancing Elephants. Truly, I was floored and wowed by the tricks performed by circus elephants. I did not expect handstands, rolls or an organized parade from gigantic gentle elephants! Very cool.

Kenzie's 1st Haircut

We realized it was finally time to breakdown and bring our 3.5 year old daughter in for a haircut.

Letting go of her gorgeous golden curls hurt, but she'll be far more comfortable in her adorable new hairdo. Plus, I promised her it will grow back! And they cut them off in 2 long curly ponytails so they will make a beautiful keepsake for Mom & Dad.

She's loving the new style from Snip Its and the finishing touch with sparkle spray was a dream! We can't wait to start wearing hair clips, barrettes, and bows again!

A Little Encouragement

No one wants to be that "Parent" who pressures their kids, but on the flip side, sometimes our children need encouragement when it comes to trying new things. Especially when they're little. We all know new social situations can be scary. And trying out a new sport or competing for the first time can be really nerve wracking - even as adults! So, we've decided to do our best to encourage our kids and give them a little push to give a few of those healthy activities a go.

Here's Kenzie just before she turned 3 participating in a little kids 200 Meter run that followed up a road race in our community that her Dad would be competing in. She was excited about her race number but incredibly wary and nervous about the event. Although she could run all day non-stop, the concept of a "race" really scared her as she knew she was venturing into the unknown. But with our convincing words, she gave it a go despite her fears.

And they're off! She had a blast running although got a bit lost during the course as the 3 and under set didn't understand the entire idea of running around a cone. Kenzie headed straight for the McDonald's up the street and the Race director has to chase her down. Very cute.

Growing up my Parents did the same for me when it came to introducing me to new sports, believing in me, and teaching me that giving it my best try and having fun was all that mattered. And in the end, just like these girls, I was usually all smiles!

Happy Father's Day or Die Poppy Die?

Mackenzie, my darling 3 year old Artist in training, was thrilled to create some prize homemade pictures and to sign her name with a brief message for both her Daddy and Poppy this past weekend. The pictures turned out just fine and she managed to figure out the spelling of , DAD, LOVE and POPPY after I showed her how to do it on another piece of scrap paper. Somehow her letter practicing went wild on Poppy's final card. His sweet wish accidentally turned out to say Die Poppy Die. Beech Nut Homestyle Baby Food Giveaway

The Protein Fix

Ever feel like something in your diet is lacking? Besides the simple answer for remembering to eat any plain old food as I'm so busy feeding the tiny hungry mouths around me that I simply struggle to find time to eat - I'm finding protein always makes me feel more energized for longer periods of time. Recently, as I've tried to find a "protein fix", I've been having eggs a few times a week for breakfast. I notice that the days I start off my day with an egg, that I not only have more energy but also think I tend to have less cravings for random unhealthy snacks as I feel more satisfied and alert from consuming a healthy source of protein.

I'm no nutritionist, but I wonder if other Moms feel like protein is more satisfying and must somehow be meeting some "dietary" needs that if you're like me, we've been missing out on?

Watching a toddler scale furniture and attempting to prevent all sorts of dangerous activities while eating a quick snack or sandwich is somewhat manageable but my husband and I are finding dinner totally impossible. So it's no wonder we're coming up short on protein!

Baby Kyle is allergic to eggs so he isn't benefiting from my new breakfast egg kick. And the nut factor is ruled out as I'm fearful of choking toddlers and pre-schoolers running around with anything remotely like a nut in their mouth! I'm trying to give the kids and myself an extra slice of cheese in the afternoon as a snack or even before we settle down for lunch. And now that we're in prime season for all kinds of fresh fruits I'm treating the kids and myself to fruit smoothies (yogurt, OJ, and fresh fruit in a blender!) as a special afternoon snack once a week too.

What other ways, besides meat at dinner, do you sneak in protein to your family's diet? I'd love to hear any and all suggestions.

Channeling Ariel

The kids are having a blast at the beach. Kyle loves the surf and Kenzie is channeling Ariel in this mermaid tail that Dad created for her. She is pretty fab at mimicking Ariel's tune as well. Very cute.

Confessions of a Shopaholic DVD Giveaway

Diane Birch "Bible Belt" Giveaway

Disney Table Toppers and Organic Animal Crackers Giveaway
